- Locations of Southern California Fires (10/25/07) - KPBS in San Diego has put together an interactive map of current fires and their status, and the LA Times has another. More fire news here, and resources for homeowners here.
- California Fire Hazard Severity Zone Webmaps (08/07) - Updated Fire Hazard Severity Zone maps are now available online.
- New publication from UC Cooperative Extension (07/07) - UCCE has recently released new guidance on home landscaping in fire prone areas - the .pdf can be downloaded here.
- After-wildfire Resources (06/07) - We have recently added after-fire resources to the Fire Information Engine Toolkit. Click here for information for homeowners recovering from wildfires.
- Global Fire Assessment News Release (05/07) - A new report from the Global Fire Partnership - which includes The Nature Conservancy, the World Wildlife Fund, the World Conservation Union (IUCN), and CFRO - urges global action to address role of fire in conservation. - Roger Kennedy lecture - Rescheduled (3/07). Kennedy, former director of the National Park Service, will speak on Monday, March 5th, at 1pm in 103 Mulford Hall. Co-hosted by CFRO and the Dept. of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management.
- Post-doctoral research position available (11/06). Smoke effects and plant physiology position available with Center for Fire Research and Outreach collaborators at the University of Melborne.
- Post-doctoral research position available (10/06). Fire ecology and fire modeling position available with the Center for Fire Research and Outreach and the Global Fire Partnership.
- The Fire Information Engine Toolkit is now available (9/06)! Homeowners can fill out an online wildfire hazard assessment and get immediate feedback, communities can download forms to do a community-wide assessment, and researchers can download programs and publications.
- Center for Fire Research and Outreach signs Memorandum of Understanding with The Nature Conservancy (9/06): CFRO and TNC have agreed to collaborate in program development, research, conservation, and educational outreach efforts related to the Global Fire Partnership.
- Climate change could lead to increased wildfires (8/06): Center for Fire Research and Outreach co-directors Max Moritz and Scott Stephens authors on California Climate Change Center report "Our Changing Climate" - read San Francisco Chronicle article | Report Summary (2mb .pdf)
- Center for Fire Research and Outreach signs Memorandum of Understanding with the Bushfire CRC (7/06): CFRO and the Australian Bushfire CRC have developed an MOU and agreed to collaborate and to develop joint ventures in training, research, program development, and the exchange of students, faculty, and staff.
