Given the importance of fire in many ecosystems, along with our dependence on and development into inherently fire-prone landscapes, we need to reach a sustainable coexistence with wildfire. The mission of the Center for Fire Research and Outreach is to develop and disseminate science-based solutions to wildfire-related challenges.
To carry out this mission, the Center draws on the strong teaching, research, and public service mission of the University of California, Berkeley, as well as the mission of the College of Natural Resources to generate and disseminate knowledge in the natural and social sciences to provide the tools to both protect the Earth's natural resources and ensure economic and ecological sustainability for future generations.
